Now, as prizes go, this was a pretty good one: Shellac Mani and Pedi and eyebrow threading (and those buggers were in need of a threading, let me tell you.)
This would be my first Shellac-ing, but I'd heard good things so my expectations were set quite high.
We started off with the threading (another first), which I'd been meaning to do for ages. I gotta say it was pretty much as quick and painless as ripping facial hair out from the follicle can get. It's also a lot easier on the actual skin than waxing, and I didn't have to worry about awkward shiny red patches on face afterwards - result!
The Shellac mani and pedi was done a lot quicker than I expected; my tootsies were done and dry and back in their shoes after only 40 minutes!
The Shellac blurb:
“CND Shellac is the original, one and only Power Polish. It’s not a gel polish – which are basically just “watered” down gels. It’s a true innovation in chip-free, extended-wear nail color! It goes on beautifully, wears beautifully, dries immediately and removes with no damage. Shellac is designed as a system. The application service time for Shellac nails is only 30/45 minutes, and Shellac goes on with the ease of a traditional bottle of nail polish. The dry time is zero – yes, that’s right, zero! There’s also no odor, and no damage to nails. Shellac is 3-free (contains no formaldehyde, DBP (dibutyl phthalate) and toluene). Shellac polish lasts for 14+ days, with durable shine that resists chips, scratches, and smudges. Finally, enjoy the easy-off that only Shellac delivers. Removal time is brief (10 minutes), and the method doesn’t damage the nails or surrounding skin.”
the results:
Not too bad I say! Actually, I'm pretty chuffed with the results.
You can check out Urban Apothecary's price list here. In addition to nails, threading and tinting, they also do spray tans and eyelash extensions! (I currently trek all the way past the boerewors curtain for my 3 week lash fills, so this was pretty exciting news for me...)
Big thanks again to Charlie from Urban Apothecary and kimgray.co.za for running this competition and, well, giving me the prize :) Good Times!
